Dog Fights
On June 4, 1942 We were breifed for my first mission. I would take off in my P-42 from Etain-Rouvres Air Base and provide cover for our bombers giving a baptism of fire on 3 german confines. We would be flying over Mettlach germany. I took the picture of my fiance out of my pocket.
What I did not know at the time, is that I would never see it again.
After about 10 minutes after take off, I saw a pair German Gunther Rall's ME109G's going the other way. For some reason, they didn't know we were there. As soon as we got in
Firing range, We ripped their wings off with our machine guns
and they both crash-landed in a nearby pond.
